AP® Exam Registration

While hard to believe, registration is upon us for students currently enrolled in an Advanced Placement® (AP®) course and planning to take the exam in May. 

Registration deadline - Friday February 3rd. 

Registration is online this year: https://goo.gl/forms/03Zdl9ZD9faOs53j2. Payment should still be made by check. $93 per exam. Checks made payable to "Town of Holliston". Please enter student ID and "AP Exam Fee" in the notes section.  Submit to Mrs. Camiel in Guidance. Late registration and payments will incur a $25 fee. Late registration deadline is February 10th. 

If a student / family requires financial assistance with the cost of the AP® exams, please contact Mrs. Ross at rossd@holliston.k12.ma.us. Holliston is committed to ensuring every student can take an AP® exam, and will work with families as needed on adjusted fees or a payment installment plan.

Exams & Transition Day

Final Assessments/Exams

Students and faculty are working hard to finish up term 2/first semester classes and begin preparing for final assessments/exams next week. Students will take their A & B block exams on Thursday, January 19th and their C & D block exams on Friday January 20th. [Exam/Assessment Bell Schedule]

Transition Day

Monday, January 23rd is Transition Day for students and faculty. We follow a B day bell schedule and all students attend their First Semester/Second Term classes. For both faculty and students, the transition day is filled with valuable activities. Prior to the implementation of this day several years ago, students did not have an opportunity to revisit their classes and teachers after taking final exams, or to go over the assessment. This day is designed to allow just that and is also filled with opportunities to provide feedback, review term three schedules and meet with teachers to receive recommendations for future courses. 

Below are some of the activities students can expect:

1. The Transition day bell schedule will follow a normal B day, with one exception. During DSB, Guidance has provided an activity for students to complete in their classes.
2. In classes, teachers will review the final assessment discussing areas of strengths and needs for the class
3. Students will provide feedback to teachers about the course
4. Students will meet with each teacher to receive recommendations for next year's courses
5. Students will complete teacher appreciation letters.
6. Teachers will confirm that all textbooks and materials have been returned
7. Students will have some time to pull up their term 3 schedules using iPass/iParent to make sure everything is accurate but we will not be printing schedules.
8. Seniors WILL HAVE senior privileges on the Transition day to leave for DSB.

Thanks to all students for their hard work during the first semester and we look forward to a fantastic second half of the year. Term 3 will begin on Tuesday, January 24thwith a C day. Any scheduling concerns should be directed to the Guidance Department.

We want everyone to stay warm and stay healthy, but if you do get a cold or flu, get better soon!

Homework-Free Vacation

Holliston High School is continuing our practice of “homework-free” vacations that began last year.

As we approach winter vacation, HHS wanted to remind the community that no homework will be assigned for any classes in order to provide students an opportunity to rest, relax and reconnect with families. With the busy lives our students have, their participation in clubs, activities and athletics, as well as part-time jobs and other commitments, our goal is to provide a much needed break to alleviate or reduce some of the stress students and families are experiencing.

We wish you a wonderful vacation, and for those of you who celebrate, Happy Holidays!

HHS Mock Election!

HHS will be participating in a Mock Election on Monday, November 7, 2016. Founded in 1980, the National Student/Parent Mock Election is a voter education program for K-12 students. the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston administers the Mock Election in Massachusetts.

The Mock Election is a non-partisan educational program endorsed by both Democrats and Republicans. The goal of the event is to teach the students the process of electing a president.

In the week leading up to the Mock Election, HHS students have been doing announcements asking pertinent questions about our US Constitution and the Presidency. Students can also learn more about each candidate in this Candidate Info Sheet.

HHS will go live on Monday, 11/7! Students will have a special advisory/homeroom.  Each advisory/homeroom will be a state with electoral votes. Students will vote, and both the popular and electoral votes will be tallied. We will go live on TV thanks to HCAT and Mrs. Chestna’s communication class. We will be updating the electoral map in live time as the votes come in. Seniors, Maddy Colantonio and Morgan Geoffroy will be anchoring the desk, with Megan Burke and Kathleen McShane manning the national map. It should be an exciting fun time!

Final election results of both the popular vote as well as the electoral vote will be announced by the end of the day on the HHS website.

The Social Studies Department and the Student Advisory Council are coordinating the Mock Election. VOTE!

ImPACT Testing for Winter Athletes

ImPACT testing for Wrestling, Ice hockey and Basketball will be administered on Tues. Nov. 15th and Wed. Nov. 16th. Freshman and Juniors that have not taken it this year for a fall sport are required to take it. If you are unsure if you need to take it, please see Sigs in the athletic training room.

MetroWest Adolescent Health Survey

To make sure we give the best possible education and services to children in Holliston, we want to learn about their attitudes and behaviors with regard to a variety of health issues. In order to accomplish this, students at Holliston High School are being asked to participate in a survey called the MetroWest Adolescent Health Survey. The questions of the survey cover many topics including alcohol, tobacco and other drug use; violence and safety; nutrition and physical activity; sexual behaviors; online behaviors; and mental health. This project will help our district develop and enhance its health education and prevention services. We will be giving this survey to students in grades 9-12 on November 10th.

The survey is anonymous, meaning students will not put their name on the survey and no one will know what they write. There will be no identifying information on any of the surveys.

Completing this survey is voluntary. Your child’s grades in school will not be affected by participation. Your child can also decide not to take the survey or skip any question your child doesn’t wish to answer.

The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment is a Federal Law that requires us to notify you ahead of time about the survey, and give you the chance to look at it, so you can let us know if you don’t want your child to take part. If you want to see the survey before deciding, a copy will be available at the main office from October 27th – November 7th.
